July Research Meeting of the main branch
The July research meeting was titled:
‘Enjoy kawari kabuto as a metal artwork’,
and was held on a very hot July 15th,
with more them 30 members participating.
Among kawari kabuto,
not only helm bowls that are transformed with paper but also
with iron (mostly with rust iron finish, tetsu sabi).
And with as example 30 such kawari kabuto,
lecturer and director of the board Mr. Hashimoto gave an explanation.
From the armour point of view,
there are many people who think
about the practical use of these helmets as a research topic.
However if you look in all honesty at the technique,
you can see that the artistic craftwork is outstanding.
And many have ended up in foreign collections.
It is clear that from now on,
we need to look not only at armour,
but at various aspects of Japanese culture.
A lot of people helped in making the lecture
succesful by giving many comments,
and the two hour meeting seemed very short.
There will be no meeting
in August due to summer holidays.
